THE CURRENT SYSTEM:

At the farmers’ market, you’ll usually find farmers selling their own produce, produce bought directly from other farmers and produce from other farmers bought via intermediaries.

This happens because the number of products that a farmer produces on average is not sufficient to provide the diverse supply that customers expect and because during the winter, Germany does not produce a vast range of fruit and vegetables.
The existence of an intermediary is, therefore, necessary for Germany since there are very few farmers with sufficiently diverse produce to be able to avoid becoming intermediary farmers themselves.

AT AFARMERFORYOU, WE FOLLOW THE BELOW PURCHASING PRIORITIES:

– Local farmers with organic products and proven respect for the environment. They usually have 2 or 3 seasonal products, and some are based around Berlin.

– Regional farmers with environmentally friendly and organic products. These usually operate through an intermediary (Terra NaturkostHandels KG), and these farmers generally produce a small variety of products. However, they do so in large quantities, so they sell exclusively or almost exclusively to intermediaries. There is a greater diversity of products as regional farmers focus on larger productions of fewer varieties, but the number of farmers is greater.

– Farmers in Spain with environmentally friendly and organic products. This is the concept of eating produce that is as local as possible. It makes sense that if you have children, or you yourself want to eat fruit and you cannot or you want to adapt to the German fruit seasons, then it is an achievement to eat Mediterranean products instead of fruit that has traveled from South America or South Africa, which even if it is organic, has had too long a journey.
